Dr Chanelle Simpson
MBBS FACEM Chanelle is a Senior Staff Specialist Emergency Physician and QLD Police Custodial Physician on the Gold Coast. She graduated from the University of Queensland in 1998. Chanelle went straight from internship to PHO in Kingaroy, 250kms from Brisbane, in the days when rural junior doctors were thrown way into the deep end. It was her amazing Med Super who inspired her to train in emergency medicine. She started as a registrar at Gold Coast Hospital in 2001 and has been a staff specialist on the Goldie since 2008. Chanelle has the privilege to be part of the tremendous growth in Gold Coast Health into the behemoth that it is today. She has found her new passion in the health logistics and care of the vulnerable population in police custody. She enjoys the teamwork across agencies and the “characters” she cares for. Chanelle is passionate about teaching residents to ensure patients genuinely understand their illness and management despite the surrounding time pressures. She believes this empowers patients, improves individuals’ outcomes and minimises failed discharges and adverse events. She is born and bred in Brisbane where she lives with her husband, three teens and a 50kg groodle, Chewy.
